Orthotic insoles for children
Many children in Canada suffer from flat feet and/or over-pronation (rolling inward of the foot and ankle). Supporting your child’s feet as they grow will minimize the risk of developing common conditions such as heel and knee pain. Footlogics offers high-quality, Health Canada-listed, affordable orthotic insoles and children’s sandals to support little feet.

Give your child's feet the foundation they deserve
Footlogics Kids orthotics are medical-grade insoles developed by podiatrists to give your child’s feet the expert support they need — at a fraction of the cost of expensive custom orthotics. Featuring a deep heel cup, proper biomechanical arch support, and shock-absorbing pads, the insoles help correct over-pronation, flat feet, and fallen arches while actively supporting the natural development of your child’s arch as they grow. And the fun top cover design makes these insoles something your child will be proud to show off — not hide away.

Children’s insoles: Supporting Growing Feet
Children’s feet grow quickly, responding to activity and changing shape as muscles, bones, and ligaments develop. Flat feet, fallen arches, and atypical foot mechanics might lead parents and doctors to wonder if orthotics (corrective shoe inserts) are beneficial.

Normal foot development in children
Flat feet are natural in infants and toddlers. The medial arch, the inward curve along the bottom of the foot, develops as toddlers start walking and bearing weight on their feet. Clinical practice standards suggest that most children begin arch development around 3–4 years old and have a noticeably developed arch by 5–7 years old. Because of this natural and progressive process, many specialists advise against treating flat feet in children 3 years of age or younger. In older children with flat feet, orthotics can be used as a preventative measure, but if no discomfort or functional difficulties are present, orthotics may not be required.
Flat feet and over-pronation
In flat feet (Pes Planus), the arch is low or missing and the sole is in full contact with the ground. Most young children have flat feet without any pathology — i.e., no aches, pains, or problems.
As they get older, the arch will typically start to develop in most children, and they’re no longer flat-footed. This usually happens from around 4 years old. If it doesn’t happen, you’ll commonly see that the feet stay flat and the child’s feet display “over-pronation”, excessive inward rolling of the foot and ankle. Poor foot mechanics may affect how the lower limb moves, causing heel, knee, hip, or lower back pain.
When orthotics may be appropriate for your child
Not all children with flat feet need orthotics, especially if there’s no discomfort or biomechanical problems. However, orthotics may be considered in certain clinical situations.
01.
Over-pronation & Flat Feet
Orthotic support can help restore natural foot function, minimize joint stress, and enhance comfort if a child’s feet roll inward excessively. This condition is called “excess pronation” or over-pronation, and it’s very common in children with flat feet.
Over-pronation can cause a “chain-reaction” of problems — not just in the feet, but also higher up in the kinetic chain, leading to issues like knee pain.
02.
Sever's Disease
Active youngsters (8–14) typically experience heel discomfort caused by Sever’s disease (calcaneal apophysitis), where the muscles, tendons, and ligaments grow faster than the growth plate at the heel. Over-pronation puts excess strain and stress on the surrounding soft tissue, especially at the back of the heel. Arch supports help reduce inflammation and discomfort by limiting stress and tension on the lower limb.
03.
Osgood-Schlatter Disease
Another common issue caused by unsupported or misaligned feet is knee pain — specifically Osgood-Schlatter Disease. Osgood-Schlatter produces pain at the front of the knee, where the patellar tendon joins the shin bone. Over-pronation and abnormal foot posture may increase growth plate traction and internal knee rotation. When used alongside rest and other therapies, orthotic insoles that reduce pronation may lessen this traction and help improve symptoms.
Orthotics may also be part of a multidisciplinary care strategy for children with neuromuscular abnormalities, congenital deformities, or systemic illnesses like juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
Footlogics range of insoles for children
It’s no secret that kids spend a lot of time on their feet. Whether it’s running around the yard, playing at school with friends, or competing in a sport on the weekend, their feet have to support them through it all. Here at Footlogics, we’re proud to be a leading supplier of kids’ orthotics, with more than 18 years of experience behind us.
We’re passionate about providing the highest quality orthotics available to ensure your children can grow up happy and healthy, without suffering the kinds of eventual health issues that could keep them off their feet. We offer a quality range of shoe inserts for toddlers up to teenagers, even an orthotic designed for soccer players!

Footlogics Kids 3/4
This 3/4 length orthotic shoe insert fits into any type of children’s foot as it doesn’t take up much room in the shoe. It features a biomechanical arch support and deep heel cup, providing excellent orthopaedic control, at the fraction of the price of a custom orthotic.

Footlogics Kids Full-length
For sports and running we recommend a full length insole that can’t move forward inside the shoe. This style features the same high arch support and deep stabilising heel cup as Footlogics Kids 3/4. Both insoles have a ‘fun’ top cover design that kids love, making it much easier to convince your child to wear the orthotics.

Footlogics Casual
When your child’s foot has grown too big for the above Kids insoles, they can start wearing our adult orthotics in the smallest size, which is XS. This orthotic offers the same benefits as the Footlogics Kids 3/4 – the perfect solution for flat feet, over-pronation or fallen arches.

Footlogics Comfort
Similarly, where the Kids Full-length size K is too small for your child, they can start using our full-length Comfort orthotics, which is identical in terms of arch support and lateral heel stability.

Footlogics Football
Many young kids in Canada play soccer, and they often complain of pain at the back of the heels after training or playing a game. This is a typical form of “growing pains” called Sever’s Disease. It’s not a disease as such, but it can be very painful. It’s simply caused by the fact that bones grow faster than tendons and ligaments. After a big growth spurt, most active children will experience pain in the back of the heel. Our Soccer orthotic helps relieve this common complaint and is designed to fit perfectly into soccer cleats.
Combine Orthotics with other forms of care
Orthotics are just one tool. Strengthening exercises for intrinsic foot muscles and lower limb stability can be very useful for your child. Suitable footwear with a firm heel counter is also important. Please consult your child’s doctor, pediatrician, or a podiatrist about the best course of action. A professional assessment of symptoms, foot mechanics, gait patterns, activity levels, and development will help support more informed decisions.
When should children start wearing orthotics?
Children commonly need orthotics around four or five years old. When babies start walking, their arches are still forming, so their feet are almost completely flat. This is because newborns’ feet contain fat pads in each arch. Leg and foot muscles aren’t yet strong enough to support the arches when standing as the infant grows.
By age 4–5, their arches will have largely formed. If your child is still flat-footed at this age, you should consider orthotic shoe inserts — after consulting your child’s doctor or pediatrician. The right age for orthotics will also depend on the individual child’s condition and growth; some children grow faster and are taller for their age than others. When flat feet or excess pronation concerns appear early, children could start wearing orthotics from age 3. Orthotics may also be used in toddlers for severe foot abnormalities.
Why my child requires orthotics?
Foot, leg, and back discomfort can result from improper foot alignment. Flat feet and over-pronation may lead to Sever’s disease (pain at the back of the heel), stress fractures, or knee pain (Osgood-Schlatter’s). Orthotics may help alleviate or prevent lower extremity discomfort and injury. Orthotic shoe inserts can help optimize foot bone and joint alignment, improve lower limb posture, and reduce stress on the knees, ankles, and feet.
Arch supports for kids
When it comes to arch supports for your child, there are two options: custom-made orthotics from a podiatrist, or pre-made orthotics, also known as “off-the-shelf” orthotics. Custom orthotics for children usually cost around $150–250, including consultation, and in some cases require adjustments with additional visits to the podiatrist. Because children’s feet grow so fast and new orthotics are typically required every 6–12 months, many parents consider a pre-made orthotic as a more affordable alternative.
Provided the pre-made orthotic features strong arch support and a deep heel cup (for rearfoot stability), this is a worthwhile option to consider. Footlogics children’s orthotics are medical-grade and designed to the same rigorous standards, offering support for your child’s podiatric health and wellbeing at an affordable price, even if you have to size up every year. As your child’s feet grow, instead of Footlogics Kids, they can transition to our adult orthotics, like Footlogics Casual and Comfort, in the smallest size (XS).
NEW: Children’s Arch-Up sandals
This summer, you can make sure your child’s feet stay supported with our new range of boys’ and girls’ orthotic sandals. Developed by podiatrists, these quality sandals feature the same support as our Footlogics Kids insoles, plus a deep heel cup and three secure velcro straps to hold the foot in place.
