Sever’s Disease (Children’s Heel Pain)
Sever’s disease is one of the most common causes of heel pain in active children, especially between the ages of about 8 and 14. It isn’t really a disease. It’s an irritation of the growth plate at the back of the heel bone, which is still developing and is pulled on by the Achilles tendon with every step, run and jump. It’s most common in children who play running and jumping sports, and it usually goes away once the heel bone stops growing. This guide explains the causes, the signs to look for and how to ease your child’s pain in the meantime. Our kids insoles cushion and support the heel to reduce the strain on the growth plate.
